BTBF 10 on 1 : Food culture in Thailand
1) Food is used as a tool for tourism (especially for Korea) because it increases people's desire to visit the country. People assume that the country will produce their food the best.
2) Food in Thailand comes with a certain culture. It is more than just the food: it is also how you eat the food and the gatherings that come with the food.
3) Western people hold certain beliefs about how food is eaten in Thailand that needs to debunked such as them eating with chopsticks more than they actually do.
4) Western people also hold certain beliefs regarding some of the animals included int he Thai diet: critters such as beetles, scorpions, etc.
5) Restaurants prioritize how the food looks as much as how the food taste (regardless of if its a fancy restaurant or street food).
6) Eating out alone is actually considered to be bad luck, so Thai people really prize eating together and the people they eat with.
7) Rice is considered part of Thai main dishes and is key part of many of the dishes known to outsiders.
8) It's interesting that noodles are also part of Thai main dishes but they are not revered to the same regard as rice.
9) There is also a difference in how foods is split into categories- Thai doesn't abide by the western standards of starters, mains and dessert.
10) Certain spices are also standard in Thai food such as chillis that are not used in as many places or at the same rate.
